There are a number of Volunteer positions available with the Smith Zimmermann Museum. Please check all that are of interest to you.
Research Researching and writing for future exhibits, museum programs and newsletters. Assisting with research requests from the public (service requests). This position requires good writing skills, interest in research the ability to be persistent. Knowledge of Microsoft Word is also helpful.
Collections Assistant Working with the museum three-dimensional artifact collection to inventory, catalogue, research and use proper storage techniques. This position requires attention to detail and careful working habits. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, scanning and Excel helpful. Training will be provided. Some lifting and going on a step stool or ladder may be required.
Education Assistant This position will help to plan and facilitate education programs which include but are not limited to helping with speakers, programing for grades K-12, collage students and adults. Must like to work with the public and be personable. This position can be tailored to your comfort level with certain age groups and/or projects.
Archives Assistant This position works with photographs, letters, documents and other items on paper. There are also audio and visual materials (DVD, films, VHS, audio tape) items within the archives. Cataloging, scanning and organizing, transcribing and rehousing are a part of the position. Knowledge of Microsoft word is helpful. Training will be provided.
Office Assistant Basic light office duty filing, typing, working with memberships assisting with mailings and newsletters. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are helpful.
Exhibits Assistant This position will work with artifacts in the museums collection to create relevant small exhibitions. Artifact handling, research and display techniques are all a part of this position. Training will be provided.
Genealogy Assistant This position works updating Genealogy records such as obituaries and memorials. This position will also assist the public with research and service requests.
